Samsung unveils the Galaxy Note 8!

The Note 7 was a fairly successful and well received phone before it decided to blow up. It turned out to be a disaster for Samsung as they eventually had to recall all the Note 7s and discontinue the product.

Well, today Samsung unveiled the successor to the Note 7, the Galaxy Note 8.  It sports a huge 6.3″ display, the biggest on any Note having QuadHD+ resolution. It isn’t bigger than the Note 7 form factor wise, because of the same infinity display technology we saw on the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The design of the phone is a bit squarish compared to the curvy design of the S8 and S8+ and helps in giving it a more sedated look. The build quality and construction are top notch as can be expected from Samsung flagships. It still features IP-68 water and dust resistance. There will be 64,128 and 256 GB models. There’s also an expandable SD card slot for further expansion.

The Note 8 is the first Samsung phone to feature a dual camera setup. It features a wide angle 12 megapixel with an f/1.7 aperture along with a 12-megapixel telephoto lens. This setup means that Samsung is now at par with the iPhone 7 Plus’ dual camera advantages. The Note 8 features both Live Focus, Samsung’s version of Portrait Mode and 2x optical zoom. Also, both the cameras feature OIS this time around.

With the return of the Note 8, comes the S Pen. It is not very different from what we saw in the Note 7 last year. It still features recognition of 4096 levels of pressure sensitivity. It is almost exactly similar to what we got last year, which is not a bad thing since most of us didn’t even get to play around with that.

One annoyance of the S8 that made it’s way to the Note 8 is the location of the fingerprint sensor. It’s located right next to the dual cameras on the back of the phone and anyone who’s used an S8 or S8+ know’s it’s going to be quite a struggle using them.

One thing that we can all be sure of is that the Note 8 will be one hell of a phone. The initial impressions from the unveil event in New York have been excellent and we at TechnoYaar can’t wait to get our hands on it.
